When players flip puck then shoot it looks to be and auto goal each time. Is that only on default controls?

In nhl 09 for 360 on online team mode especially I see players flip over the puck and then shoot it and about 90 percent of the time it looks to be an automatic goal. I prefer using clic controls but I'm uming if I want to do this method I have to be on a different control setting I presume?
