Why are child molester sentences so light?

I guess they don't take those sort of crimes seriously,I think they should. I would like to see a complete overhaul of our sentencing policy and instead of what seems to be arbitrary sentencing each crime have a minimum sentence that must be served,no getting out early for good behaviour but extra time to serve for bad behaviour.The minimums must reflect the seriousness of the crime but should a judge decide that the particular crime he is judging warrants a longer sentence s/he can give it.No more slaps on the wrist but serious jail time for serious crimes.
