How can I eliminate spam sent to my email address?

I was stupid enough to fill out some online survey which promised to send me a nice gift. My email is now bombarded by shopping and type spam and only some of it is diverted to my spam folder. I have tried to unsubscribe to the many lists but the barrage never ceases. I would hate to have to abandon the email addy I have had for years. Any help is greatly appreciated.
