What actually proves adultery in the military and what are the consequences?

Check out UCMJ they can go to jail for a long time, however I have never seen it. Depends on who they sleep with and wether the investigation proves they did it. I saw one where they made person call his wife and tell her and another where the person was knocked down two ranks and transferred.
